Elementary School Teachers Ask Students to Be Their Bridesmaids and Groomsmen

“I’m about to ask my students to be part of my wedding.” says Stamps

It all started through a soon-to-be viral Tik Tok in which an elementary school teacher, Alexandra Stamps, was seen not only inviting her pupils to her wedding but also asking if they would be a part of it by being her bridesmaids and groomsmen. Stamps, the Science and Technology, McClean Elementary School teacher from Wichita, Kansas, began with  “Okay, so I have a really important question to ask you guys,” and followed it by asking her fifth-grade students if they would be the bridesmaids and groomsmen at her wedding to which the students were heard answering "Yes!" excitedly.

Her now husband, Mason McDowell, also a teacher in the same school, invited his third graders to play the same junior yet important role at their wedding. Stamps and McDowell met during the pandemic in 2021 and started dating after a barbeque meet-up. Since the time, McDowell proposed Stamps after the pandemic, they knew they had to involve their students in their celebration. Stamps exclaimed, “We spend over forty hours a week with them, and we both really love our students so much. And so I thought it would be kind of fun to include them in the festivities instead of just having them in the audience. I just want to give them this special part of my life. I want them to be part of it because I’m so proud of the hard work that they’ve done this year, and the fact that they’ve not only survived the pandemic — but thrived in it — and watching them grow as people in this school year, they deserve to be up there with me.”, according to Viral Hatch

On the day of their marriage, all pupils lined up at the altar and closed their eyes to welcome the first appearance of the bride and groom. It was the first wedding for many of them and a few of them even got emotional. They were seen wearing light green gowns and white shirts and black pants with beautiful hairstyles that were put together by the local designers and hairdressers. Their parents were first asked for their permission after which the students were gifted faux pearl necklaces and colored sunglasses.

The kids also got a junior bachelor and bachelorette party which included a Gatorade toast. They all danced with the bride and groom at their reception as well. They seemed to be really happy to be part of their teachers' important day. “I wanted to give them something to look forward to this summer since this past school year was really difficult with COVID. The best part was just their genuine smiles. I know they’re all excited to be here, so it’s just really sweet and it just means a lot to me,” Stamps expressed in an interview uploaded on Youtube by Inside Edition.
