The new mother thought she was having a bad case of kidney stones when her contractions started.
Over the past few years, many cases have surfaced where mothers gave birth without even knowing they were pregnant. Similarly, it has been reported that a Boston woman recently gave birth on the toilet after believing her contractions were kidney stones. She didn't even know, till then, she was pregnant, reported the Daily Star.
The new mother, Melissa Surgecoff, 38, gave birth to a baby boy into her toilet bowl at home after she felt something ‘rush’ out of her. Her fiancé Donnie Campbell, 37, came into the bathroom to check on her after she thought she had 'lost an organ' but was tasked with rescuing his surprise newborn baby Liam from the toilet bowl. The new father revealed to TODAY that he had mistaken his son for a giant poo but then quickly realized it couldn't be "because it was way too big". "I look in the toilet and I still didn’t know what it was. And I thought I basically lost an organ because I didn’t know. I’m screaming I’m freaking out, I’m in shock. I don’t know what’s going on, and Donnie went to the toilet, and he rescued the baby," Melissa recalled, according to the Daily Star.
It was further reported that Donnie cleaned Liam up using the same technique he had seen on television shows and he started to breathe seconds later. Paramedics who were called in a little earlier were stunned to be greeted with a newborn instead of a kidney stone.
The mother and the newborn were taken to the hospital, where he was found to have a minor iron deficiency, but was otherwise healthy. Melissa apparently had a history of irregular periods and had assumed that her weight gain was due to being stuck at home during Covid. The couple has been together since 2014 and were engaged in 2016. They had plans to get married in 2020 but had to cancel due to the pandemic. The couple has plans to tie the knot on June 18 after settling in with their newest addition, the Daily Star reported.
