Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson were followed by a group of people as they headed toward their car in New York City Wednesday night. The celebrity couple was surrounded by security when fans and paparazzi swarmed them when one fan got too close, causing Wilson to trip. As the 65-year-old actress regained her footing and said, "Stop it," her husband of 34 years turned around and put his hands up to the group. He then yelled at the fans to “back the f*ck off” his wife, ushering them to back away. "Knocking over my wife?" the two-time Oscar winner added before turning around and getting into the car after Wilson, reports PEOPLE.

Many people took to social media to comment on the incident. Morgan Tremaine tweeted, "First off, there's no debate that Tom Hanks' reaction is justified. These situations are scary and most of these ppl know to keep a distance, but all it takes is one reckless pap to make it dangerous." Another fan BillBabeaux added, "If anything this makes me love Tom Hanks more. He's not some bowl of pudding, but a real human who can get ticked off (and even his outburst is restrained). Gonna rewatch all his movies now, t.hanks!" Reddit user CampJanky commented, "But seriously, have you ever heard paparazzi collectively apologize and chill out like that? Typically they smell blood in the water and bait the celeb into seeing red. But the shame of angering Tom Hanks flipped them back into Human Being mode instantly." Regoapps joked, "It's like being scolded by America's dad."

As for Wilson and Hanks, the pair recently celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary on April 30. Wilson shared a photograph from their 1988 wedding, taken on film captioning it, "34th. 1988-2022. 💕☦️💕." The Girls actress also shared the photo on her Instagram Story, set to the sounds of her song, The Best Days of Our Lives.
The pair tied the knot in 1988 and share two children together, Chester "Chet" Hanks and Truman Theodore Hanks. Hanks and Wilson first met in 1981 on the set of ABC's sitcom Bosom Buddies before co-starring in the movie Volunteers in 1985. They started out as friends since Hanks was married to his college sweetheart, Samantha Lewes when he was just 21 years old; Hanks married Lewes in 1978 and divorced in 1987. Nearly a year later, the Toy Story actor married Wilson and the rest is history.
