The teenagers had been told by both their parents that they were not allowed to see each other
A teenage couple accused of killing one of their fathers' by knifing him to death had recorded themselves joking about 'murdering somebody' days before they were arrested, reported the Daily Star.
The 'Star-crossed' teens, Sierra Halseth, 16, and Aaron Guerrero, 18, were arrested four days after the body of Daniel Halseth, 45, was found. According to reports, he had been stabbed, stuffed in a sleeping bag and badly burned in the garage of his Las Vegas home on April 9. The teenage couple was then arrested in Salt Lake City on April 13. The police found a video on their mobile phone where they joked about "murdering somebody". "Welcome back to our YouTube channel: day three after murdering somebody," Guerrero says in the video. While Sierra replies laughing, "Whoa, don't put that on camera." "It was worth it," Guerrero says while pretending to choke her.
Officers found various knives and saws with blood and tissue at the crime scene. The prosecutor claimed that the pair had tried to cut up Daniel Halseth's body. Footage from Home Depot and WinCo was presented at the court which shows Halseth carrying bottles of bleach and Guerrero walking out a circular saw and lighter fluid. Court transcripts obtained by People says that detectives told the jury that there was a "very strong odour of lighter fluid" when they arrived. The teenagers had been told by both their parents that they were not allowed to see each other. They had dated between June and December and their families wanted them to break up, the Daily Star reported.
The outlet further said that Guerrero who is 18 could face the death penalty while Sierra Halseth is too young. The pair were charged with conspiracy, arson, robbery, and fraudulent use of a credit card, as well as murder. They are currently being held without bail.
