The daughter had just attacked him with a kitchen knife after they argued over her playing loud music on her cell phone.
An 18-year-old from Arkansas was arrested this Tuesday for allegedly slicing off a part of her father's ear after he took her cell phone away. The teenager has been identified as Jasmine Marie Flores of 299-B Ledgerock Road in Hot Springs, Arkansas. According to The Sentinel-Record, Jasmine was detained just after 2:30 am at her home and was charged with second-degree domestic battery and she may have to face up to 10 years of prison time. The teen's 44-year-old father told deputies that arrived at the scene that his daughter had just attacked him with a kitchen knife after they argued over her playing loud music on her cell phone. It reportedly made Jasmine "extremely upset."
Enraged over having the mobile device taken away, she allegedly got hold of a pair of scissors that were nearby and started poking her father in the chest while demanding for her phone to be returned. The injured father also told officers that Jasmine tried to cut him with the scissors while grabbing him by the throat. He said he retreated from her in the hopes that it "would be the end of it because she is my baby girl." However, Jasmine did not stop and is said to have instead grabbed a kitchen knife from the sink and tried to cut him but she only sliced his jacket.
At that point, the terrified father said, he gave her the cell phone back "in an attempt to make her stop attacking him." The teen did not stop even after receiving her phone back and attacked him with the knife again, leaving a cut on the left side of his forehead, his neck, and underneath his chin. She also managed to slice off his left ear in half "approximately an inch from the top."
Although the girl's father fled to the apartment of a female neighbor, Jasmine allegedly followed him into the apartment and said: "I should [have] hurt you worse." As per reports, both the victim and the neighbor informed investigating deputies that the teen returned to her apartment after threatening her father.
The deputies discovered the 44-year-old victim in the apartment complex's parking lot, clutching "a bloody rag" to his left ear as he walked toward them. LifeNet staff checked him and informed him he would need to get stitches, "especially on his ear." The victim reportedly chose to drive himself to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs for treatment instead of being taken by EMS. He also gave the deputies written consent to enter his residence and talk to his daughter.
When deputies arrived at Flores' residence, they found Jasmine on the bed right inside the door with "a black handle knife in the waist of her pants in the front." Upon noticing the officers enter, the teen reportedly took the knife out of her jeans and flung it on the bed. For the sake of the officer’s protection, the knife was removed from her side quickly. Deputies also found another knife on a table near the front door and discovered that both knives had blood on the blade and handle.
Officers photographed the victim's injuries at the scene of the altercation and of "the lack of injuries" on Flores once she was at the jail. The teen, who has no past criminal records, was being held on a zero bond and is set to be produced to Garland County District Court on January 2. However, she is expected to appear in court earlier.
