The 47-year-old addressed the beloved Nick Jr. show's viewers who are now roughly between 25 and 34.
Millennials, get the tissue box ready. We're going on a nostalgic trip—back to our childhood. The beloved Nick Jr. program Blue's Clues launched in 1996 where viewers watched original host Steve Burns with his animated blue dog look for clues. By 2002, Burns had left the show. In an episode titled “Steve Went to College,” the original host handed the show off to his brother, Joe (played by Donovan Patton) as he disappeared onto a two-dimensional bus.
According to The New York Post, Burns, now 47, returned to celebrate the show's 25th anniversary by addressing his old viewers, who are now aged roughly between 25 and 34.
In the emotional video, the daytime Emmy nominee says, “You remember how when we were younger, we used to run around and hang out with Blue and find clues and talk to Mr. Salt and freak out about the mail and do all the fun stuff?” said Burns, who wore his iconic green striped shirt for the video. “And then one day, I was like, ‘Oh hey, guess what? Big news, I’m leaving. Here’s my brother Joe, he’s your new best friend,’ and then I got on a bus and I left and we didn’t see each other for like a really long time? Can we just talk about that? Because I realize that was kind of abrupt.” He went on to explain how “challenging but great” the time since has been. He also spoke to his viewers ( like he would on the show) and pointed out what he and viewers have accomplished so far. “We started out with clues and now it’s, what? Student loans and jobs and families. And some of it has been kind of hard, you know? I know you know. And I wanted to tell you I really couldn’t have done all of that without your help.” The tone becomes more emotional when he concludes by saying, “I guess I just wanted to say that, after all these years, I never forgot you … ever. And I’m super glad we’re still friends.”
It’s ok, you’re among friends 💙— Nick Jr. (@nickjr) September 8, 2021
Fans got emotional watching Burns speak and there was an outpour of gratitude towards the former Nick Jr. star. One Twitter user pointed out: hearing steve again… takes me back to a time when happiness felt so simple and kindness came so easily. to the kids who were tiny back when i was, in the 90s/00s, please keep being kind to yourselves, even if no one else is. don’t stop believing in you. Another fan of the show added: What an amazing video by Steve! It was like seeing your best pal from childhood after a really long time. It was exactly what we all needed today! Simple advice, but, like always, right on point! We are so happy we’re still friends too! A third joked: Can Steve come back and compassionately tell me how to get a Clue as an adult. Like how to qualify for a mortgage and meal prep? One person likened Steve to family, saying: When he said that, it actually took time for me to go back and think about when I was 4, watching Blue’s Clues and becoming a better person for it Steve was like a big cousin. I really loved him as such... and I guess I still do
