Robin Williams would have turned 71 today and he had a wonderful career that touched the hearts of millions around the world. He was also a husband who tried his hardest to do the right thing by his wife even as he battled his mental struggles along with deadly Lewy body disease.

He gave his wife, Susan Schneider Williams, a great weekend doing all they loved together just before he died by suicide on 11th August 2014. Susan began to believe that the "terrorist" in her husband's head was finally gone during the second weekend of August in 2014. However, that wasn't the case and Schneider went through something extremely heartbreaking. She has opened up about her experience in order to raise awareness and the suffering that Lewy Body Disease causes.

She wrote for Neurology, "As you may know, my husband Robin Williams had the little-known but deadly Lewy body disease (LBD). He died from suicide in 2014 at the end of an intense, confusing, and relatively swift persecution at the hand of this disease's symptoms and pathology."

She stated that his death surprised her since she had begun to see a difference in him. She wrote in an article titled, The terrorist inside my husband's brain, "As the second weekend in August approached, it seemed his delusional looping was calming down. Maybe the switch in medications was working. We did all the things we love on Saturday day and into the evening, it was perfect—like one long date. By the end of Sunday, I was feeling that he was getting better."

He said his final words to her, which she was unaware of at the time and those words rang in her head long after he died. She mentioned, "When we retired for sleep, in our customary way, my husband said to me, 'Goodnight, my love,' and waited for my familiar reply: 'Goodnight, my love.' His words still echo through my heart today. Monday, August 11, Robin was gone."

Susan released a statement on the day of Robin's death that said, "This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin’s family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin’s death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions," per Radar.

Following the loss of the Good Will Hunting actor, she admitted that it was difficult for her to go about her daily routine without him. She wrote in the article, "After Robin left, time has never functioned the same for me. My search for meaning has replicated like an inescapable spring throughout nearly every aspect of my world, including the most mundane."

Just a few days before his death, Robin devoted his final Instagram post to his daughter, Zelda Rae Williams. He wrote, "...Happy Birthday to Ms. Zelda Rae Williams! Quarter of a century old today but always my baby girl. Happy Birthday @zeldawilliams Love you!"

Zelda spoke about her father's death on NBC's Today Show. She said, "We don't have an explanation. There's no point questioning it... blaming yourself or the world. It happened. Anybody who has ever lost anyone works very hard to continue that memory in a positive way," per BBC.

She added, "A lot of people feel his absence."
