Bullied For Being 'Weird', This 9-Year-Old Girl Has An IQ Higher Than Einstein and Stephen Hawking

She is now pursuing two online degrees at once. Adhara Pérez dreams of being an astronaut one day.

She might not have the life experience of even 10 years but Adhara Pérez is already well on her path to success. According to recent reports, the nine-year-old Mexican girl has an intelligence quotient of 162, a score higher than the estimated 160 of iconic minds like Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking. However, the child's journey so far has not been easy at all.

Growing up with developmental disorders is difficult, to say the least. Experiencing constant discomfort and even bullying, children with these disorders are often not able to find their spot on the table or grow with their peers. Pérez was three when she was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome. Included on the autism spectrum, the developmental disorder can cause difficulties with social interactions, due to which she was bullied in school and even addressed as 'weirdo' and 'oddball.'

“I saw that Adhara was playing in a little house and they locked her up. And they started to chant: ‘Oddball, weirdo!’” her mother, Nallely Sanchez, told PEOPLE. “And then they started hitting the little house. So I said, I don’t want her to suffer.” According to her mother, Pérez fell into a "very deep" depression after this incident, not wanting to go to school and showing further disinterest in her classes. Her teachers told her that she was often seen sleeping during the classes.

However, her mother knew about her unusual thinking abilities and smartness. For instance, she was aware that her daughter had exceptional algebraic knowledge and mastery over the periodic table. So, she decided to take her to therapy, and that’s when a psychiatrist recommended that they go to the Talent Care Center. At the center, they confirmed that Pérez has an outstanding IQ i.e. two points higher than that of Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking. This discovery opened up new doors for Pérez and gave her the opportunity to learn in the environment she needed. She was able to finish elementary school by the age of five, middle school by age six, and even graduate high school by the age of eight, according to The Yucatan Times

The child prodigy has also written a book with a title that translates to Don't Give Up. She has been featured in Forbes México’s 100 Most Powerful Women in Mexico list. Now, she’s reportedly in the process of earning two degrees online: Industrial Engineering in Mathematics at UNITEC and Systems Engineering at CNCI. Meanwhile, she is also developing a smart bracelet that will monitor the emotions of differently-abled children while also anticipating and preventing seizures and other outbursts, reported Vogue México.

The child is learning English to prepare for entrance exams at the University of Arizona, US — her dream school, which has been recognized by NASA for its space exploration program — and hopes to explore astrophysics, paving the way to her dream of becoming an astronaut someday.
