Nick Cannon and Alyssa Scott spent the weekend with their child in California and went to the beach before Zen passed away.
Actor Nick Cannon's five-month-old son, Zen, has died of brain cancer. The actor was heartbroken as he shared the news on his eponymous daytime show, Nick Cannon. Zen's condition worsened after Thanksgiving, said the actor. Nick Cannon and Alyssa Scott welcomed Zen in June earlier this year. Cannon hailed Scott as the "strongest woman I've ever seen" after what they went through with regards to their son. The actor said she's been an epitome of strength through the diagnosis and after Zen passed away. "Zen's mom, Alyssa, was just the strongest woman I've ever seen. Never had an argument, never was angry. Was emotional when she needed to be, but always the best mom, and continues to be the best mom," said the 41-year-old actor of the model, reported People.
Zen is Cannon's seventh child. Cannon and Alyssa Scott first noticed a difference in their son when he was just two months old. His head seemed bigger than usual for his age. "He had this real interesting breathing and by the time he was two months old I noticed…he had this nice sized head, I called it a Cannon-head. We didn't think anything of it, he had a normal Cannon head," said the actor. Nevertheless, Cannon still wanted his son to be checked by a doctor, just to be sure. "I wanted to take him to the doctor to get the breathing and the sinus thing checked out," he said. Cannon didn't think much about it at the time. "We thought it would be a routine process."
Doctors found that fluid had been building up in Zen's head and they detected a malignant tumor. The actor was told that Zen needed surgery to drain the fluid. Zen's condition improved after the surgery but then doctors realized that his tumor was growing a lot faster by around Thanksgiving. Cannon and Alyssa Scott were told that they didn't have long with Zen and so, they decided to spend 'quality time' with him over the weekend in California. They took him to the ocean on Sunday. He shared a video on his Instagram with Scott and Zen on the beach. He then flew back to New York for the show. Cannon confirmed on his show that his son had passed away.
"I didn't know how I was gonna handle today but I just really wanted to grieve with my family, people who love you. I didn't want to make it about any pageantry so I kind of went back and forth of what I should do but I was always taught, you go through it, you grow through it, you keep pushing," Cannon told his audience. "I'm here to show that I can fight through this, I'm feeling it, I'm vulnerable, I'm open. This is a special show dedicated to my beautiful son Zen."
Cannon and Scott welcomed Zen in June, nine days after he had twins Zion Mixolydian and Zillion Heir with Abby De La Rosa on June 14. He had a baby daughter Powerful Queen last December with Brittany Bell. He also has a four-year-old son Golden with Bell. Cannon also has 10-year-old twins—son Moroccan and daughter Monroe—with ex-wife Mariah Carey.
