Man Drops 80,000 Pennies On Ex-Wife's Front Lawn As Final Child Support Payment

"It's not just my mom he's trying to embarrass, it's also me and my sister and it's upsetting that he didn't consider that before he did that," the daughter said

Divorce can get bitter and not many like to pay child support especially when they have no contact with the child. One father from Henrico County, Virginia made his disappointment very clear when he dumped 80,000 pennies on his ex-wife's lawn, which was his final child support payment worth $800.

The incident occurred when his daughter, Avery Sanford, 18, was at school, but her mother was at home. The woman could do nothing but watch in horror and embarrasment as her ex-husband emptied the pennies on her lawn. Avery spoke about the incident and said, "I just turned 18. When I was in the middle of class, my dad came by. He had rented a trailer. He pulled up in front of the house and turned the trailer on so it dumped out all the pennies on the grass and my mom came out and was like, 'What are you dumping in my yard?' She didn't know who it was until he shouted, 'It's your final child support payment," reported WTVR

The teenager spoke about the impact the incident had on her and said, "It's not just my mom he's trying to embarrass, it's also me and my sister and it's upsetting that he didn't consider that before he did that." Sanford and her mother decided to turn a bad situation into a positive one but donating every penny of the last child support payment to Safe Harbor, a domestic abuse center. "Turning around and donating that money to moms and children in need, I feel like that really turns this situation into a positive. You can learn from it," the teenager said.

Avery revealed that she hasn't spoken to her father in years and said that the penny incident proved to her that she had made the right decision to keep away from him as difficult as it was. She then shared that she had no interest in having a relationship with anyone who disrespected her mother. "It's really hurtful and damaging to your kids when you do things like that. It doesn't matter if they're young or an adult, the actions of your parents will always have some effect on you," she said. Avery's mother said that she reported the incident to Henrico Police. Avery's father on the other hand said that his actions were the result of 18 years of built-up frustration and explained that his emotions got the best of him. He then said the last thing he wanted to do was to put a further wedge between him and his daughter, reported WTVR.
