The 28-year-old shared his recent health update after postponing three upcoming performances.
Justin Bieber has canceled a series of upcoming shows on his latest 2022 Justice World Tour. The musician has canceled performances in Toronto, Washington DC, and New York so far due to health concerns. The 28-year-old pop star revealed in an Instagram video that he has been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome which has caused him to have a partial facial paralysis. In the three-minute-long video, Bieber tries to blink and move his face but parts of his face would not respond. According to Rare Diseases, RHS is a rare neurological disorder characterized by paralysis of the facial nerve (facial palsy) and a rash affecting the ear or mouth. Caused by a virus, the Mayo Clinic notes that prompt treatment of the syndrome reduces "the risk of complications, which can include permanent facial muscle weakness and deafness."
"Hey everyone. Justin here. I wanted to update you guys on what's been going on," he explained in the clip. "Obviously, as you can probably see from my face, I have this syndrome called Ramsay Hunt syndrome and it is from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves and has caused my face to have paralysis." "As you can see, this eye is not blinking," he continued before he winks his other eye. "I can't smile with this side of my face, this nostril will not move, so there is full paralysis in this side of my face." Talking about his upcoming shows Bieber said he is "just physically, obviously not capable of doing them. This is pretty serious as you can see. I wish this wasn't the case but obviously, my body is telling me I got to slow down and I hope you guys understand and I'll be using this time to rest and relax and get back to 100 percent so that I can do what I was born to do." "But in the meantime," the "Peaches" singer added as he tried to smile. "This isn't it. I got to get my rest on so that I can get my face back to where it's supposed to be."
The musician continued, "I'm gonna to get better and I'm doing all these facial exercises to get my face back to normal and it will go back to normal, it's just time. We don't know how much time it's gonna be but it's gonna be ok and I have hope and I trust God and I trust that this is all gonna, it's all for a reason and I'm not sure what that is right now but in the meantime, I'm gonna rest. I love you guys, peace."
Earlier this year, his wife Hailey, 25 also suffered a health scare when she was hospitalized after suffering a mini-stroke. An insider told PEOPLE, "Between Hailey's health scare earlier this year and now this, it's a lot for them. Hailey is worried as well. Just like Justin did everything he could to take care of Hailey, she now does the same for him. They are a great team and will get through it together. Justin can't wait to recover and continue working."
