The couple got married in 2002, and have 3 children together. The actress has nothing but praises for her husband.
When one sees Julia Roberts' wide, million-watt smile, one always wonders about the source of such joy. Despite having a tough childhood, Julia Roberts fought through life and found happiness and success on her own terms. Be it her brilliant acting or her peaceful marriage with Danny Moder, "America's Sweetheart" earned it all.
The couple recently celebrated their eighteenth wedding anniversary on Saturday, July 4. The actress put up a post on Instagram. "✨18 years✨," she wrote alongside the photo, adding the hashtag #heckyes.
Roberts, 52, and Moder, 51, met on the set of the 2000 film The Mexican, where Moder worked as a cameraman. Two years later, in 2002, they tied the knot. The happily married couple prefer to maintain their privacy and are seldom seen in public together. But Roberts has always gushed about her husband and their marriage. Once, she said, "I think that first kind of real 'seismic shift' was meeting Danny, getting married to Danny," to Gwyneth Paltrow in an episode of her Goop podcast, according to E! Online.
When Roberts met Moder, both of them were involved with other people. She was in a relationship with Miss Congeniality star Benjamin Bratt, while he was married to make-up artist Vera Steimberg. But before getting together, they responsibly decided to sort out their separate lives out, on their own.
"He sorted his whole thing out, separate and apart from me. And I sorted my life out, separate and apart from him. I think that's the only reason we were able to ultimately fall in love with each other and be together," told the actress to Oprah in 2003. Soon the couple started dating and came together to change each other's life forever.
In an interview with People's 2017 World's Most Beautiful issue, she said “I mean, every day my husband walks in the door it’s like a recurring dream,” she said. “I’m like, ‘Ah, he’s back!’”
She confesses that her husband is her favorite person in the world. "He truly, to this day, to this minute is just my favorite human," Roberts told Goop. "I'm more interested in what he has to say or his point of view just than anybody. Really, we're so lucky in that way. We just really, really like each other and we just enjoy each other's company."
Speaking with Extra in 2018, Roberts continued raving about her husband, saying he is an "awesome human being" and they "have so much fun..."
She has always believed that Moder's presence has been a great boon in her life. "I think it's not so much that I'm happier now than ever; it's that I'm more content. I'm in the harbor of my life. A huge part of it is my marriage. My husband, Danny, has really shined the light for me. Because of being married, I've met people and experienced all these little things that have nurtured my life—not so much changed it, just nurtured it in a way that's astounding," said Julia to Oprah Magazine.
Julia also maintains that her marriage to Danny was the best decision of her life. "It just gets deeper, it just gets more complex... you're young and you fall in love and go, 'Yeah, we're going to get married and we're going to build a house and will have kids,' and all these things that we all kind of dream of, but you don't know if you're going to like the same couch and you don't know if he is going to want to get patterned towels... You just don't know these things until you are right there doing it and we are so fortunate that there is some kind of inexplicable harmony to the way we do things. He's the best decision I've ever made," said Julia.
The couple is parents to son Henry Daniel, 12, and twins Hazel Patricia and Phinnaeus “Finn” Walter, 15.
