Jennifer Lopez Marries Ben Affleck in Las Vegas, Takes on His Last Name | “Love Is Patient. Twenty Years Patient”

Lopez and Affleck were previously engaged in 2003 but called it off days before their wedding date.

Jennifer Lopez is married to Ben Affleck and has shared her new last name with fans around the world. The 52-year-old singer married Affleck the last weekend in Las Vegas. The pop star's website/newsletter, OnTheJLo, has a ton of content where she and her staff have disclosed all the details regarding their wedding, reports TMZ. Jennifer wrote in the newsletter, "We did it. Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient." She signed off the newsletter by writing, "With love, Mrs. Jennifer Lynn Affleck."

Lopez intends to take Affleck's surname as her own, according to the marriage license obtained by PEOPLE. According to a Clark County Clerk's Office marriage license certificate, Benjamin Geza Affleck is Party 1 and Jennifer Lopez is Party 2. Nothing is noted under the "new name" section for Party 1, although "Jennifer Affleck" is shown under Party 2. As of Sunday afternoon, the marriage certificate, which must be filed within 10 days of the event, had not yet been filed.

Jennifer further wrote in the newsletter, "Exactly what we wanted. Last night we flew to Vegas, stood in line for a license with four other couples, all making the same journey to the wedding capital of the world. Behind us two men held hands and held each other." She stated that in front of them stood, "a young couple who made the three-hour drive from Victorville on their daughter’s second birthday."

She added, "All of us wanting the same thing— for the world to recognize us as partners and to declare our love to the world through the ancient and nearly universal symbol of marriage." The ceremony took place months after they announced their engagement in April 2022. Jennifer and Affleck previously started dating in July 2002, got engaged in November, and then postponed their September 2003 wedding only days before the date.

In January 2004, they called off their engagement. However, in a turn of events, the couple got back together last year and are now married. Jennifer told PEOPLE in February 2022, "We're older now, we're smarter, we have more experience, we're at different places in our lives, we have kids now, and we have to be very conscious of those things."

She and her ex-husband Marc Anthony have 14-year-old twins Emme and Max, while Affleck has three children with ex-wife Jennifer Garner, Violet, 16, Seraphina, 13, and Samuel, 10. Jennifer recounts that they just made it to the wedding chapel before it closed, and while they had hoped for Elvis to preside, he was unavailable. They continued on, snapping photos in front of their witnesses, who appeared to be some of their respective children.

She wrote in her newsletter, "Stick around long enough, and maybe you’ll find the best moment of your life in a drive-through in Las Vegas at twelve-thirty in the morning in the tunnel of love drive-through, with your kids and the one you’ll spend forever with. Love is a great thing, maybe the best of things-and worth waiting for."
