The actor said he would roll his eyes at the thought of having children before becoming a father at the age of 51.
Hugh Grant is a Hollywood celebrity who chose to embrace fatherhood after reaching the age of 50. The 62-year-old actor became a father for the first time when he was 51, when he was blessed with his first child. After that, the Notting Hill actor has since welcomed four more children. Hugh had many insights to share about his children, and he also explained how his life evolved after having children. "Well, I was wrong, I was just plain wrong," said the actor once in an interview with Virgin Radio in 2020, recalling his days as a bachelor. "And children, you know. I used to roll my eyes. People would say, 'Oh Hugh, you don't understand it, but they were right'," Hello! Magazine reported.
Hugh and Tinglan Hong have two children, Tabitha, who is eight years old, and Felix, who is six. John Mungo Grant, Anna and Hugh's first child, was born in September 2012; their second kid, whose name is yet unknown, was born in December 2015.
Hugh opened up on the details on his fatherhood experience back in January 2018, while speaking with Jess Cagle of People TV on being a father. “It was the nicest thing that's ever happened to me - he said sounding clichéd - but it happens to be true.” He continued, “It's just lovely to have all that love around. Suddenly you love someone more than yourself. It's unheard of in my case and they love you and it's all enchanting.”
On the Ellen DeGeneres Show back in 2012, the actor was asked how is his life after having kids and he had some beautiful things to share. Hugh said he would not agree to have kids when people told him about having kids and now he is loving every moment of it. Grant went ahead and said it's surprising that everyone was right all these years, “I recommend it. Get some!”
Hugh's ex-girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley accidentally and casually announced the birth of the couple's third child while she was appearing on Watch What Happens Live in March 2018. “He had another one last week. He has five,” the Austin Powers alum gushed, per US Weekly. “He was over 50 when he spawned them all! He’s an enchanting dad.”
Hurley, who split from Grant in 2000 after 13 years together, really appreciated Grant's persona now, adding that fatherhood has made him a better person, “Having these kids has transformed him from a very miserable person into a fairly miserable person. It’s improved him. He’s gone up the scale.”
