Carrie Fisher was insecure and obessed with the actor. She even fantasized him leaving his wife for her.
Betrayal in a relationship is heartbreaking and unjustified no matter what. When Carrie Fisher, the late American actress, revealed she was in a relationship with Harrison Ford, he was married.
According to People, Fisher chose to disclose her secret of nearly 40 years in her memoir, The Princess Diarist. Stumbling upon the diaries she kept during the time, the actress decided to share it with the world.
She revealed she had a three-month affair with Ford during the filming of Star Wars: A New Hope in 1977.
19 at the time, Fisher attended the birthday party of director George Lucas, along with the members of the crew during their shoot in London. According to The Verge, "she was “essentially the only girl” in a room full of people getting sloshed. The crew members who were high from the drinks teased young Fisher saying, "here’s our little princess without her buns," and eventually encouraged her to get drunk with them. Though she hated the taste and even the effects of alcohol, she caved in. She wrote, "It makes me stupid, sick, and unconscious really fast, I’ve never actually been drunk—just senseless and inert.”
Soon, she was surrounded by drunk crew members. Moments later, Ford steps in and takes Fisher outside after claiming that she needed some air. The two get into a car and start making out with her, according to Fisher. That was the beginning of their affair. Ford at the time was 33 years old and married to his first wife, Mary Marquardt. He was also the father of their two children.
Recalling their three months of romance, Fisher wrote, "It was so intense. It was Han and Leia during the week, and Carrie and Harrison during the weekend," according to People. “I was shocked by the fact that he fancied me. I was a very insecure girl and had only had one boyfriend," reminisced Fisher, according to The Guardian.
She also stated that her relationship with Ford ignited self-doubt. "I looked over at Harrison. A hero’s face — a few strands of hair fell over his noble, slightly furrowed brow. How could you ask such a shining specimen of a man to be satisfied with the likes of me?" said Fisher, according to People. However, that did not come in the way of their affair. She riddled with self-loathing and anxiety but she was in love with Ford, according to The Guardian. The young actress even began fantasizing about Ford leaving his wife to be with her.
"I was obsessed with Harrison long before it became fashionable; I was a trendsetter in that sense. I started a craze,” said Fisher, according to Vanity Fair. She even tried to think of the changes she could bring in herself just to have him by her side. But Ford, on the other hand, was just happy to have an affair with her.
“I was so inexperienced, but I trusted something about him, He was kind," wrote the actress in her book. Their relationship ran its course and ended after the shoot. But, Fisher remembered her time with Ford over the years. Looking back and rereading her journals, Fisher said she was startled by her own passion and claimed that she had mixed feelings about the time. “I wouldn’t want to live through that again, ever. It’s just so obsessive, and self-obsessed, and confused," said the actress, according to The Guardian.
The actress also stated that she told Ford about her decision to write the book. However, he did not respond to her. “I told him I was writing the book, and I would give it to him and if he didn’t like anything in it I would take it out, and he seemed surprised at that. Then I called him and said I’m going to send it to you, and I did and I never heard from him," said the actress, according to The Guardian.
Ford, on the other hand, remained silent about the book for a long time. Talking to GQ, he said, "It was strange. For me." However, he refrained from adding any details and claimed it was not appropriate to discuss it as Fisher had already passed away. “Oh, I don’t know. I don’t know. You know, with Carrie’s untimely passing, I don’t really feel that it’s a subject that I want to discuss," said Ford, according to Rolling Stone.
