George Clooney Is "Sorry" He Fell In Love With Amal In His 50s|He Could "Have Spent Even More Time Her" Otherwise

George Clooney is head over heels for the mother of his children. He is drawn to her beauty and intelligence.

When you are with the right person, you might wonder why you never met them earlier. But like we all know, there is a time for everything in life. George Clooney had his share of relationships before meeting the right woman for him. Now, the Hollywood actor only has one regret.

According to EOnline, Clooney feels he could have spent more time with his wife, Amal Clooney if they had met earlier. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor said, "I'm sorry I was 50-something when it happened, but only because I could have spent even more time with her."

Clooney met Amal through a mutual friend in Lake Cuomo in Italy in 2013. The actor was immediately smitten by the charming barrister. "I thought she was beautiful, and I thought she was funny and obviously smart," said the actor, recalling their first meeting, according to Women's Health Magazine.

He even joked that she would have thought he was too old. He even admitted that he did think about being with her. "I think about three days in. I mean, I knew when I met her that she was so extraordinary and special. And then I wondered if I’d ever get a chance to date her," said the actor, according to CloserWeekly

Soon, the couple established a friendship and the two exchanged texts about each other's life before meeting again in person.

As the days progressed, the two realized that they had something that was more than just a friendship. Months later, they were on their first date in London. “We went for dinner. [Amal] said, ‘Let’s go to this place.’ It was one of those places that was incredibly hip and chic. And when we came out, there were 50 paparazzi there. But she handled it like a champ… Pretty quickly, things escalated," recalled the actor, according to Women's Health.

Speaking of their initial meeting, Amal said, "I met George when I was 35 and starting to become quite resigned to the idea that I was going to be a spinster. Then we met and started hiding out in my London flat and very soon it felt like, no matter what happened, I would never want to be with anyone else," according to Closer Weekly.

They eventually established a deep loving relationship and rumors about them dating came out in public. However, the two never spoke of marriage. "I knew fairly quickly that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Amal (but) we had never talked about it so there wasn’t like a 'Hey, maybe we should get married'," said Clooney, according to Marie Claire.

Months later, Clooney got down on one knee and proposed to the woman of his dreams. The Ocean's Eleven actor said his move "was a full-on leap of faith." The actor's faith did save him as Amal said yes.

However, she was astonished by the proposal. "It was 20 minutes of me on my knee, waiting for her to say yes, because she was so shocked. My only doubt was if she thought maybe it was too soon. But there was no doubt that we were the right couple and that we were the right team," said Clooney.

In September 2014, the couple exchanged their vows and promised to be with one another. Since then, they have appeared hand in hand on red carpets while being admired as a power couple by many. They also worked together on social issues and shared common goals.

In June 2017, the couple welcomed their twins, Alexander and Ella. "They're not terrible twos. They're good kids. They're happy kids. They laugh a lot. They do pranks already. Put peanut butter on their shoes, so that it looks like poo-poo on their shoes and stuff, and they think that's funny," said the actor about his kids, according to Eonline.

Speaking of his responsibilities as a father, he said he wants to raise two good human beings with empathy. "The first thing you think is, 'I hope I don't screw this up'. You are really responsible for two kids. I want them to be happy. I want them to have a sense of humor. I want them to be interested in things. I want them to be compassionate about other people's plights. Because that's the thing, you know? You have to have some sort of empathy," said the actor.

Meanwhile, Clooney has great admiration for his wife. "She’s someone that I enjoy spending every minute of the day with and I’m very proud to be around, watching the things that she does I admire so greatly. I’ve always been involved in things other than this business long before I was successful at it, but she’s been doing it kind of quietly and unheralded for a long, long period of time," said the actor, according to Marie Claire.
