Demi Lovato's grandfather Perry passed away on July 1 after ailing for a long time and she is hurt that she can't give him a proper funeral.
For most people, our grandparents are the sweetest parts of our childhood. After all, nobody spoils a child as their grandparents do. So, losing them can be tough on us. They become an integral part of our childhood and having to say goodbye to them might feel like saying goodbye to a part of us.
Singer Demi Lovato recently faced the heartbreak of losing a grandparent. She shared with her followers that she recently had to say goodbye to her grandfather, Perry, who died on the morning of July 1, 2020. The 27-year-old shared a heartfelt tribute to the family patriarch on her Instagram, as per PEOPLE.
"Woke up to the news that my Grandpa Perry passed away early this morning. He’s been sick for a couple years now so although I’m relieved he is out of pain, it still hurts to think our family won’t get to say goodbye with a proper funeral for a while," she said. Just like her, thousands of people have not been able to say their goodbyes to those they have lost since the pandemic has hit.
It is crucial to maintain social distance and that means that hosting events like weddings, funerals, and others wouldn't be possible. Lovato continued, "But that’s the reality during this pandemic. This man loved God FIERCELY and was one of the best preachers I’ve ever had the honor in witnessing spread the word of God. I love you, Grandpa. I’m sorry we didn’t take more pictures together but I have so many memories to make me smile until we meet again someday. Rest easy. Love you."
The 27-year-old Grammy-nominated singer received many messages from followers and fans. Her boyfriend, Max Ehrich, commented on her post with a heart and prayer hands emoji. Lovato’s mother, Dianna De La Garza, wrote, "Our memories with him are better than pictures #RIP Chief" in response to her statement that they didn't have many pictures together.
The former Camp Rock star has been staying in quarantine with her boyfriend during the pandemic. The Sorry Not Sorry singer showed her emotional side a few days ago and shared a gushing tribute to him in honor of his birthday, as per Pagesix.
"Being with you makes life SO MUCH FUN. We literally act like hooligans on the daily and don’t give a F**K if we’re embarrassing ourselves if others are around!! I spend my days with you, bare-faced and in a bathing suit... I feel unconditionally loved and accepted by you in a way that I’ve never felt before... I can’t explain it or you.. you’re indescribable, you beautiful, man. Inside and out you are jaw-droppingly gorgeous..." she said, adding, "You’re also such a positive lil beam of light in my life and I can’t wait to make more birthday memories together.. here’s to the future baby. I love you."
The Camp Rock 2 actress has never had an easy relationship with the men in her life, starting with her father. This year on Father's Day, she posted a photo of herself with her stepfather, Eddie De La Garza. "Father’s Day is never easy for me but this year was a little easier knowing that that may have been my dad visiting me in [butterfly] form today. I love you both @eddie.delagarza & RIP Dad," she wrote.
Lovato's father, Patrick Lovato, died in 2013 due to cancer but their relationship had been frayed, according to ETOnline. She had called him "abusive" but his death had affected her deeply. "I was very conflicted when he passed, because he was abusive," Demi says in the emotional black and white clip of her album, Confident. The album had a song titled Father. "He was mean, but he wanted to be a good person. And he wanted to have his family, and when my mom married my stepdad, he still had this huge heart where he said, ‘I’m so glad that [he's] taking care of you and doing the job that I wish I could do.'"
