The 67-year-old actor met his third wife accidentally in a hotel where he had been staying while he was shooting for Britain's Got Talent.
Love is universal and nobody can control who they have feelings for. If you fell in love with a much younger or older person, that's just destiny. Two adults, who have deep feelings for each other, should be able to be together without others or even our own prejudices coming into it. Love is a beautiful emotion and keeping it bridled would not help anyone.
Actor and singer David Hasselhoff, 67, was as iconic in Baywatch as Pamela Anderson was or Jason Momoa is. Hasselhoff, who has a surprisingly huge fan base in Germany, and other parts of Europe like the UK, has been a judge at Britain's Got Talent. It was during his time as a judge on the show that he met his third wife Hayley Roberts, who happens to be 28 years younger than him.
Hasselhoff, who has been married and divorced twice before, met Roberts quite accidentally. He had been filming in Cardiff for the reality TV show when they ran into each other at the hotel he had been staying at. The Hoff swept the Welsh model off her feet when she asked him for a photograph, according to Metro UK. The funniest part is that she had no idea about him playing the famous lifeguard character Mitch in Baywatch.
They met in 2011, and he felt that her attitude towards him was "nice and refreshing." They dated for seven years, during which he had doubts about marrying her because of their age gap. But he knew she was the one and popped the question in 2016 during a romantic beachside picnic in Malibu, California, according to Hello! Magazine.
"I had a saying, 'You don't get married because you want to live with someone, you get married because you can't live without them'. I felt that way," David told the magazine. "I knew that I was really unhappy without her. I waited to propose because I thought I was too old for her."
He added, "I've asked her to marry me before but those times were for fun. This time, it was special and from my heart." Roberts says she had no idea he was going to propose. "We were both in tears… I genuinely had no idea he was going to do that. I’m still so overwhelmed," she said. "I thought he was just joking around at first. He's asked me before, but it was never for real. Then he pulled out the ring. I cried so hard that he didn't get around to actually asking, 'Will you marry me?' until about ten minutes later."
He gave her a vintage ring instead of buying a new one. "This ring that I’ve got is really special. It’s my mom and dad’s. I wear it for luck and I wear it for remembrance and so I thought, you know, it’s nice I don’t have to go out and get another ring. I’ll just keep this one," he told OK Magazine.
They got married in a small ceremony in Italy in 2018, and even after the wedding, they were battling questions about their age gap. "For the longest time I didn’t think it was right to marry Hayley as I was so much older and I didn’t want to take away the fun and the youth and the excitement of growing old together and having children," said The Hoff, according to Metro UK. "We’ve been together for about seven years and we’ve had such a great time. I’ve realized how much I love Hayley and how much we’ve become part of each other’s life," he said in 2018 when he was 66 years old and she was 38.
"David acts so much younger, he doesn’t see his age. I’m probably older than my years. I don’t feel like he’s that much older than me," added Roberts. She had earlier told Hello!, "I don't worry about it. I don’t want to miss out on being with someone I love because of what might happen down the line."
