Always aware of her desire to have children, Cameron Diaz believed she would have two children by the time she turned 21. The actress, 50, talked about how becoming a mother in her 40s changed her and how it also affected how she viewed getting older. In 2019, Diaz welcomed a baby girl via surrogacy and named her Raddix.
In an earlier interview, Diaz explained how she felt about society putting so much pressure on women. In a statement to InStyle in 2012, she said, "Society definitely puts pressure on women to make them think their lives should go a certain way."
She added: "I’ve never said I don’t want children, I just haven’t had children yet." Diaz, who portrayed a pregnant woman in the film What to Expect When You're Expecting, made it clear to the world that parenting requires a little bit more effort than you might think.
According to Us Weekly, talking about how she thought she'd be a young mother and wife Diaz said: "I thought I was going to be married and have two children by the time I was 21." As she was doing well in her career, the actress explained, she had to put a pin on her plans for motherhood.
On January 5, 2015, Diaz married musician Benji Madden in a Jewish ceremony at her Beverly Hills home. At the age of 41, she started fertility treatments. She opened up about being a mother in her 40s on Naomi Campbell’s YouTube series, No Filter. She said: "A lot of people do it the other way around… they get married and have a family in their youth. I'm kind of doing it in the second half of my life."
Explaining her perspective on being a mom in her 40s and how it is a real choice, Diaz said, "Having a family when you’re young... it’s like anything when you’re young: You do it. But when you’re my age and you decide to do it, it’s a real choice. You really have to work hard for it." Diaz also stated that she has no plans to return to acting and will put her daughter and her wine business first for the time being, Motherly reported.
Diaz also talked to Gwyneth Paltrow about having a young child for the GOOP’s podcast and said: "It's totally opened up. I'm excited. I've got 50 or 60 years to go, I want to live to be 110 since I've got a young child."
She further said, "I think you have this amazing moment in your 40s where you appreciate who your parents are, and I want to have that moment with her, be there with her in her 40s." As per Harpers Bazaar, Diaz and her husband Benji are trying to have a second baby.
