4YO Gets Killed By Father In Murder-Suicide On The Day Mother Asked Court To Keep Away From Him

The mother had approached the court twice, once for a domestic violence injunction to keep the father away and the second time for an emergency pick up order, both were denied

In a tragic turn of events, 4-year-old Greyson Kessler was killed by his father, John Stacey, 47, in a murder-suicide on the same day the child's mother, Alison Kessler, had begged the court for an emergency pick-up of her son which the judge had allegedly denied, reported PEOPLE

Authorities believe that Stacey had first shot and killed Greyson before turning the gun on himself at his Fort Lauderdale apartment. According to CBS4 News, Alison became frantic after she couldn't reach Stacey. She petitioned the court for an emergency order, asking authorities to pick up the boy because she feared for his safety. She told them that Stacey hadn't taken Greyson to school and that police were unable to find him, "The father is wrongfully detaining the minor child. The Mother is justifiably concerned the minor child may be injured in the Father's care," her attorney wrote in the petition, according to court records. The request was denied and the Judge said that the motion "does not present an emergency as it addresses the issue of child visitation," reported PEOPLE.

Court records further showed that he had also been sending her disturbing text messages. According to NBC 6 South Florida, one text from Stacey reads, "You are not allowed to date other people. It's either me or no one. Or I will remove child support and quintuple text volume. The choice is yours, Ali." In another, he says, "You deserve to have your head separated from body, and deserve to die. But I am not the violent type. God will deal with you." He had even called her a "vile pig" in one of his texts.

According to reports, the mother had asked the court for a domestic violence injunction to keep Stacey away from her and her son prior to asking for the emergency pick-up. "His behavior is erratic and escalating, and I fear for my life, my boyfriend's life, and most of all my child. He is unstable mentally," she wrote in the petition. The judge denied it, saying, "Petitioner has failed to allege any overt acts by Respondent which would constitute domestic violence under Florida Statute," reported PEOPLE.

Reports say that Stacey was suffering from untreated PTSD from being a member of "The Moonies," a religious group. Alison alleged that it was in fact a cult. She claimed that Stacey had left abusive voicemail messages, put a tracker on her car, and was angry at her for having Greyson. Her family has now opened a GoFundMe page to help with the funeral and legal expenses. They wrote, "The police, child protective services, and the criminal justice system failed Greyson and Ali, who filed multiple emergency orders to get Greyson safely away from the father, who had been sending threatening text messages and emails to Ali, and exhibited frightening behavior. If the domestic violence injunction filed by Alison had been approved by the judge, our Greyson would be here with us today."
