3-Year-Old Girl Puts Boy In Headlock After He Asked Her To Marry Him: "I Took Him Down"

The toddler picked up the move while wrestling with her dad.

A three-year-old girl from Missouri was caught by her preschool teachers for putting a fellow student in a headlock. Kynlee McFetridge of St. Charles, Missouri, responded very matter-of-factly when asked why she did what she did, reports Good Morning America. The boy, Jack, had asked her to marry him. In a video captured by her mom, Kristen McFetridge, the toddler can be heard saying, “I took a headlock down on Jack and took him down. Because kids don’t get married so that’s why I put a headlock down on him.”

The video starts off with mom asking, “What happened at school?” “I took a headlock down on Jack and took him down,” Kynlee says. “Why? What did he say?” asks Kristen McFetridge. “Because kids don’t get married, so that’s why I put headlock down on him,” Kynlee tells her mom. When Kristen probes, “Did he say he wanted to marry you?” the precocious child replies, “Yeah. But kids don’t get married, so that’s why I put a headlock down on him. And that's why I took him down."  "I don't think you're supposed to do that," Kristen McFetridge tells her daughter. "But that's the greatest thing ever," a straight-faced Kynlee tells her mom, to which mom quietly suggests, "Let's not put boys in headlocks, okay?"

However, Kynlee’s dad, Scott McFetridge, as well as her teacher, found the incident pretty funny. Scott said he learned about his daughter's wrestling move when he picked her up from school. In the school's color-coded behavior chart, he noticed that his baby girl was on pink which meant "not good." The toddler's teacher cracked up as she recounted Kynlee's headlock to Scott who was trying hard not to laugh himself. “I was trying to be a good dad and reprimand her, but it was pretty hilarious,” he said. “It was hard for me to stop laughing and put her in timeout but we made it happen.”

Well, dad probably had a small role to play in Kynlee picking up the move. But he says it was for a good cause. The father-daughter had been wrestling when she was younger as a way to help her gain strength and coordination. The little girl had to have open-heart surgery when she was just five months old due to a congenital heart condition. "It’s not like I taught her [a headlock],” Scott said. “I was just trying to get her stronger and coordinated and I guess she figured out what I was doing and I didn’t really realize she learned it.”He went on to describe his daughter as a “firecracker” who is wise beyond her age. Now the little girl knows that what she did was not right and has learned from it. In fact, she and Jack are still “really good buddies.” Scott jokingly added that he just hoped his daughter remembered the headlock move as a teenager. “Every dad wants their little girl to put a headlock down on a boy, especially one who had a rough start like her,” he said. “Hopefully she can still do that in about 12 years.”
